Favorite Home Office Makeover

I remember the days working in a cubicle of an office building. Desk, file cabinet, bulletin board, chair. Blah. Having a job with my very own window made me feel like I didn’t miss the day. Was there sun? Did it rain? Did I catch anything subtle to distinguish this day from the last, or the next?

With many of us working from home, we get a chance to have an office with a window. Sadly, I’ve lost count of the desks that face a wall, or the room’s entry. An entire room—with a whole freakin’ window!—and we’re facing a bulletin board or a door. It’s a crime against freedom.

The first thing I do is turn the desk so that the side is near the window, jutting out from the window into the room. The messy tangle of cords can drop down the side, along the window. A file cabinet can sit alongside the chair, creating the “L”. Add a good desk lamp and you’re in business.

You now have a view out the window, whenever you want to rest your eyes, or keep an eye on the neighborhood.

Bonus: The room instantly becomes more interesting. Everything isn’t flat against the walls. There’s still space for a bookcase, comfy reading chair, maybe a table when you need to spread out and “get wide” with a project. Add a TV and you have a complete “escape room.”

Need help with your home office set-up? Maybe you’re losing your office with the window to a newborn, and you’d like some ideas. Give me a call and let’s get you set up!
